Our churches are full to the brim with hidden histories – and none more so than Ynyscynhaiarn in North Wales.  A modest grave in the churchyard of this fine 18th century church, sited at the end of a dramatic causeway, belies a tale of abduction, romance and a glimpse into a very different age.   This month we explore the intriguing story of ‘Jack Ystumllyn’, abducted as a slave from the West Indies at the age of 8, who lived out his days in a remote part of Gwynedd.
