In our 7th blog highlighting the hidden histories of people connected with our churches, Friends’ Trustee Dr John Morgan Guy explores the life of Thomas Young of Hodgeston. Born in 1507 to a family of modest means, Young came to the attention of the Bishops of St Davids, based at nearby Lamphey Palace, as young man of some promise. He rose to prominence during the religious, political and social changes of the English Reformation in the 16th century and ended his career as the Archbishop of York. He is buried in the east end of the choir at York Minster – where his memorial can still be seen.
